WHAT IS A CSA??
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.
This means it's a community of support from members, coordinators, farmers, and community leaders.
JSQ CSA offers Vegetable Shares, Fruit Shares, Pie Shares, and Flower Shares. Farmers choose an array of in season, ready to be picked options for each week.
Traditionally, the CSA model is to pay upfront for a full 22 weeks of food. This guarantees sales and supports the farmers and their families. We run an income flexible CSA, which means we don't turn someone away if they can't pay it all upfront.
We are given beautiful produce, baked goods, and flowers from our farmers, the space for pick up, and the patience and understanding as we give the farmers money when possible. We are gifted with time and care from coordinators and members that keep weekly pick ups happening. Our excess food feeds families from the CARES, the Center for Caring and local folks through St. Peter's bi-monthly pantry. This an opportunity to support local family-run farms, explore new foods, while also meeting local folks.
All members must donate about 4 hours throughout the season to host pick up at the church and pay a $25 admin fee. This fee allows us to pay for any fees throughout the season that may come up and also allows for a cash flow when members can't pay on time. The extra money has also allowed us to offer low cost vegetable shares for folks in need.
All members must pick up their food weekly from St. Peter's Lutheran Church during the designated pick up hours.
IMPORTANT:
It’s a big picture kinda thing. We do what we can to be flexible with payments, but we need your support in showing up on time for pick up, being communicative during the season (we can reach you via email or phone), speaking up if you need any support, and volunteering the hours you agreed to. If the times for pick up or the volunteer commitment do not work for you this season, I hope you understand that this is not the best fit for you.
If you are interested in local produce, but can not commit to the CSA, consider the Journal Square green markets and farmers markets. Find more info on our main page.
